- if there was every a perfect example of your stereotypic homeschooled Catholic girl- it would not be me. my Faith is my foundation. my family is amazing. my friends are the greatest blessing imaginable. my life is good.

for some good wholesome mooosic
"I think I figured it out. we need to be together like the shore and the sea."
so I figured I would have a little time and share my latest 'lullaby'
this one is Jon Foreman. aaaaamazing. probably one of the the best lyricist I've ever encountered. this song "In My Arms" is from the view of a man completely pouring out his love for his wife in very simple words. this song is kinda how I want my husband to relate to me. yeah I'm a sucker for flowers and fun jokes, but when its just the two of us sitting together, I want him to be able to look at me and say "I dream to hold you in my arms. I love you." and for that to mean the world to me...this song is how I hope my future husband feels right about now. he dreams to hold me in his arms. because I sure as heck am looking forward to being held in his :)
In My Arms - Jon Foreman
I promised myself I wouldn't turn this into a "my husband better be this! this! aaaand this! and have curly hair. oh! and shares my passions in life....like being Catholic" kinda blog. maybe every once in a while I'll sneak in a summary or just my thoughts on the masculine gender ;) that monologue as a story. hehehe

little gesture = big impact
I'll admit it, my job gets boring. surprise! I know its hard to believe that filing charts, calling Blue Cross, and arguing with patients over how much they have to pay could ever be categorized as 'boring' .
the one and only thing that tends to irk me at work is how often people look completely through me at the front desk. its like I'm not even there. I'm just the machine that hands you paperwork and answers your questions. now please don't think I hate all humankind for walking into that office (setting off the most irritating doorbell known to man...) I've actually gotten used to being a faceless receptionist. but what I'm getting at is the fact that it always makes my day when someone actually takes a moment to talk directly to me. not to the person taking their money, not to the scheduler, not to the insurance information center - to ME.
a guy came in today and after I made some joke comment about how school and work don't mix, he didn't just politely laugh and leave, he asked me where I went to school (turns out he goes to South too) so he spent a good five minutes at the counter just chatting about which professors/classes he likes and why. did I think he was cute? heck no. did he compliment me in some flamboyant way? absolutely not. he simply took a little five minutes to acknowledge my existence which made his "have a nice day" 100x more memorable than the countless half-hearted mumbled "have a nice day"s I hear everyday at work. a small gesture that made my day all the better :)

if we all took just a couple minutes out of our day to stop and talk to the brunos cashier, bank teller, waiter at waffle house, barista dude at starbucks, or whoever it may be; think of what an impact you could make on their day...on their entire life.

BE A MAN!
the greatest Disney princess of all time will forever be Mulan. please don't pull the "she's not a real princess" bullcrap on me. Disney princess rules are different from normal ones ;)
Mulan came out when I was just hitting that stage in little kid life when the "battle of the sexes" seed is starting to grow. Girls were way better than boys and Mulan was proof. Not only could she save all of China from the Huns, but she did it in a skirt! (and the only time you see any dudes taking down the bad guys in a skirt is Braveheart - hopefully this illustrates just how epic Mualn is)
She was that hero I wanted to be - multiple times I covered my face in baby powder then went forth with my makeshift weapons to launch an attack on my brothers. good times.
but enough about her, there's an underlying story line in the epic film:
men being MEN - the best part of the movie is after Mulan gets the arrow from on top of the pole and all the guys start taking on the role of men. they start trying hard to "be a man!" they pour themselves into working as hard as the physically can to prove their manliness. and after becoming so, are able to go forth and save all of China.
We need that today. guys who really strive to be men. far far far too often, guys don't stand up and be men. why? because they're not being challenged. no I'm not in any way trying to say women have to go and compete with guys in testosterone-infused contests, but what women have done is become so tolerate to guys who don't want to step up that we've lowered our standards for manhood to close to nothing...
so I have a proposal - ladies, redetermine your expected caliber. DON'T SETTLE for something less than you deserve because you feel like the right kind of guy is not going to come along. if you desire a wonderful, respectable, God-loving, leading man; but you keep your expectations low because you believe this perfect man is never going to show up, guys are going to see that they don't have to be this incredible guy to get you.
gentlemen, be just that. be gentle, be loving, be passionate, but be 'swift as the coursed river with all the force of a great typhoon...' don't be the minimum. because if all you're attempting to do is just barely make the cut for a 'nice guy', well thats all you're going to be. I'm not trying to completely blame lack of masculinity on laziness, I just want guys to be aware that they (like everyone else in more that one area) could do a little better on the portraying manhood deal...I just really need a man who's going to be the head of the house, the leadership role in our relationship (and I'm Cajun, so I loooove being in charge)
guys are great. men are incredible. which one would are you gonna be?

going green
Green.
if you look around, its the most prominent color. the color of the trees, grass, etc. its ordinary. which is what I like. if you're not comfortable with the ordinary, you won't be able to enjoy life. what's the ordinary? day to day life. those days that you're not at the beach or hiking in colorado. those days that you're not getting married or graduating college. those days that you're just living. breathing in and breathing out. I like those days. why?
because I'm not trying to 'just get by' - I'm taking each day to the fullest :) life is such a blessing that we should take full advantage of each day. my heart sinks when I hear people complain about their life. yes, certain things in life I complain about, but I'm talking life in general. when people get out of bed every morning with absolutely no ambition. they're just waiting around for the next 'exciting' event. as much as I look forward to the wonderful out-of-the-ordinary experiences in my future, I don't want the emotional high of those things being the only thing getting me through. I'm hoping I can stay that way :)
if good things lasted forever, would we appreciate how precious they are?" - Calvin and Hobbes
